Spring is morel mushroom season and the thrill of the hunt is alive in the woods. If you are hoping to find them this spring, keep these in mind:

• Look after a warm rain when the forest breathes steam. I find mine after temps hit above 70 for a few consecutive days.
  
• Wander near dead or dying elms, ash, poplars, and old apple trees.
  
• Look in disturbed areas recently affected by flood or fire.
  
• Look for areas with a good amount of leaf litter, but also where soil is exposed within.
  
• Get low to the ground or on your knees to look at ground level to see them poking through the litter.
  
• Don't look directly down, look about 5 ft on the ground in front of you. Scan slowly.
